## Residence Permits for EU/EFTA Nationals
EU/EFTA nationals can travel to Switzerland without a visa and can, in principle, live and work here freely. However, if you plan to stay longer than 90 days, you will still need to obtain a residence permit.

At ISAPZURICH, semesters run slightly longer than 90 days, so if you only apply for the visa-free period, you risk missing the beginning or end of the semester. If you plan to study at ISAPZURICH for a longer period, we generally recommend applying for a residence permit for study purposes.

## Registering with the Municipality
If you intend to stay in Switzerland for longer than 90 days, you must register with the municipality where you live. This must be done within 14 days of arrival. If you are registering in the Canton of Zurich, the municipality will forward your registration to the Zurich Migration Authority, which decides on residence permits.

You will need to provide several documents, such as a passport/ID card and a rental contract. For a full list of required documents, please check with your municipality directly.
There are three Kreisbüro in Zurich for all city based residents. You can find out more on the City of Zurich website. You will need to use a browser translation service as the site is in German.

## Residence Permit for Studies
The most common residence permit for studying at ISAPZURICH is the Permit B for study purposes, issued for one year and renewable annually. For study purposes, you may stay in Switzerland for a maximum of 8 years.
